Sustain Music The European Music Council (EMC) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the development and promotion of all genres and types of music in Europe. It advocates access to music for all and for freedom of musical expression across Europe. As part of the International Music Council (IMC), the EMC strategies and actions are based on the IMC’s 5 Music Rights. The project “Sustain Music” aims at empowering the EMC members, a strong network of music organisations (74 members in 28 countries) and the wider music sector also reaching out to the broader culture sector continuing EMC’s long-standing collaborations beyond music. With “Sustain Music” the EMC will be • Advocating for a strong music sector, • Empowering the music sector to achieve positive and sustainable change, • Building Alliances within the music sector and beyond, on European and international level. The activities include the annual conference “European Forum on Music”, “EMC Lab” (connecting members), capacity building through workshops and webinars (on climate action, gender equality, advocacy) as well as accelerator programmes (mentorship, fellowship). Through “Sustain Music”, the EMC advocates for the music sector on European and international level and strengthens the advocacy work of their members on national level e.g. by providing advocacy toolkits and joint letters. The advocacy work will be carried out in continuous exchange with other music sector stakeholders and cultural networks. The activities of “Sustain Music”, bring together all areas of the music sector, amateur and professional, music education, creation, documentation, performance, participation, production and heritage across all genres in Europe and even beyond. Sustain music will work on sustainability in and for the music sector aiming for positive change, turning the post COVID recovery of the music sector into an opportunity that will have sustainability in the spirit of the UN SDGs at its heart.
