Description
Description | India is undergoing a rapid process of urbanization and is at the same time particularly affected by the negative effects of climate change. Urban planning and the climate-adapted expansion of supply infrastructure can hardly keep pace with the dynamic growth of cities. The aim of the thematic project is to make a contribution to climate-resilient urban development in selected states and cities in India. In order to do justice to the complexity of the problem, Indian cities and institutions are to be supported by creating incentives to implement reform approaches in combination with investments in climate-resilient urban infrastructure in the areas of water resource management and waste management. The measures currently planned under the thematic project can be assigned to the two individual measures City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) 2.0 and Climate Resilient Water Investment Challenge (CRIC 20-20). The individual measure CITIIS 2.0 finances innovative and climate-friendly infrastructure development projects, particularly in the area of waste management, as well as reforms and results to improve the sectoral framework conditions for urban development. The investments are supported by EU grants for technical cooperation. CRIC 20-20 finances infrastructure and reforms to improve the provision of services in the WSS sector, particularly with regard to resilience to climate change. The project sponsor for both individual measures is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The municipal, federal and central government institutions in particular benefit from the support for reforms and the capacity-building measures. In addition, the population at the locations of the sub-projects benefits from an improvement in urban infrastructure and basic services. |
