Description

Description

The creation of an expanded, modern and sustainable bus feeder system increases the accessibility of urban services and jobs for the residents of Dakar and thus contributes to value creation and social development. The residents of Dakar benefit from an expanded, modern and sustainable local public transport system. The overall program comprises four components, the financing and implementation of which is being supported by several donors (AFD, EU and EIB). Component 1 includes construction measures for adaptations to roads and bus stops. In addition, two workshop depots are being built for the maintenance and protected parking of the buses. The areas intended for this purpose are being made available by the state of Senegal, but require relocations and the use of protected forest areas. The German contribution will finance part of component 2. This includes the procurement of buses and information technology for the operation of the feeder system, which is to be operated by formal transport companies. In phase I, a total of 380 buses are to be procured to serve 14 lines, and in phase II around 550 more buses for an additional 18 lines. The introduction of a high-performance, digital passenger information system is planned for the efficient operation of the buses and the gradual planned tariff integration between the feeder buses, the TER and the BRT. Component 3 covers the costs of project management and communication. Component 4 includes measures to professionalize bus transport, for example by building capacity at the level of bus operators, accompanying measures to improve road safety and specific measures to take women into account as users and employees.
