Description
Description | As part of the development cooperation program Sustainable Resource Management in Cameroon, the project aims to preserve high-quality ecosystems and improve the living conditions of the population (overall objective) through sustainable forest and wildlife management in the southwest region of Cameroon by those affected, especially the poorer sections of the local population (project objective). The measures primarily concern supporting the collaborative management of the Mt. Cameroun, Korup, Takamanda and Banyang Mbo protected areas with a focus on improved monitoring and increased enforcement of the applicable usage rules, improving the socio-economic infrastructure in the intervention zones and promoting income-generating measures for the local population. The target group of the project is the population living in the surrounding areas of the protected areas, the forest concessions and the community and village forests. There is worldwide interest in positive effects on the global goods of biodiversity and climate. The program sponsor is the regional delegation of the Ministry for Forestry and Wildlife (MIN-FOF), which is supported by an international consultant in implementing the program. The project is being carried out in cooperation with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society). The cost of the programme extension amounts to EUR 15.0 million, which will be financed entirely from FC funds. The duration is expected to be 4 years. |
