The project aims to preserve high-quality ecosystems and to sustainably improve the living conditions of the population (overall objective) through sustainable forest and wildlife management in the southwest region of Cameroon by the affected interest groups for their own benefit, with particular consideration given to the poorer sections of the local population (project objective). The interventions in the second and third phases of the project focus on collaborative protected area management, combined with the development and implementation of strategies that ensure equal treatment of nature conservation and development/poverty reduction, including through infrastructure and agricultural support measures, as well as on supporting more sustainable management of forest concessions, community and village forests. In addition, the project supports the resolution of land use conflicts and the development of sustainable financing mechanisms for protected areas. The target group of the project is the population living in the area surrounding the Mt. Cameroon, Korup, Takamanda and Banyang Mbo protected areas, as well as the forest concessions, community and village forests. The program sponsor is the regional delegation of the Ministry for Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF), which is supported by an international consultant in implementing the program. The project is being carried out with the support of GIZ and in cooperation with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society). The cost of the program extension amounts to around EUR 10.0 million, which is fully financed by the FC. The duration is two and a half years.
