Description
Description | High technical and commercial losses are hindering the efficiency of the Ghanaian energy sector. This is due, among other things, to the poor condition of the transmission networks. In southern Ghana in particular, the power lines are overloaded. In the medium term, this will lead to an increase in power outages and a less reliable power supply, especially in urban hubs such as Accra and Kumasi. At the same time, the Renewable Energy Master Plan envisages a significant increase in generation capacity from renewable energies. Decentralized generation, changing power flows, progressive electrification and a sharp increase in variability in generation due to natural conditions require a robust grid infrastructure. This means that the expansion of renewable energies can only be implemented if investments are made in the expansion and modernization of power grids at the same time. The construction of the 330 kV transmission line from Accra to Kumasi will contribute to an efficient, reliable and climate-friendly power supply, as well as to grid stability, thus enabling sustainable economic development. By expanding the electricity network, private households, public institutions and companies will benefit directly from an improved and reliable electricity supply. The project is being implemented together with GRIDCo as the project sponsor. |
