By promoting the sustainability of local public transport in Tirana, the project helps to meet the ever-increasing demand for green, reliable, safe, comfortable and barrier-free inner-city mobility. In particular, the project contributes to improving the provision of services in public bus transfers and to avoiding local air pollutants in Tirana and climate-relevant CO2 emissions in Albania, thus contributing to global climate protection. Specifically, the three main traffic arteries of the capital Tirana are to be converted for the introduction of an express bus system and the necessary buses are to be procured with electric drives. The target group includes all residents of Tirana who will be better off directly (through the improvement of services in local public transport) or indirectly (through less fossil-motorized private transport and air pollution) as a result of the project. The borrower is the Republic of Albania, represented by the Ministry of Finance, which will forward the loan to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, which also houses the project implementation unit.
