The purpose of this Jean Monnet Module is to establish a course at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Mostar on Enlargement policies for the Western Balkans, with a special emphasis on Bosnia and Herzegovina. This course has been tailored to the urgent need to open academic dialogue about the strategic goal of EU integration. The innovative educational input will seek to engage students making them bearers of critical thought. Their knowledge will be enhanced by experts from different national and international universities. The course will enable students to analyse key components and moments in the complex process of EU enlargement; define the most important forces that affect the genesis of the process; differentiate theoretical and methodological approaches to enlargement and Europeanisation; recognise the position of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of approaching the EU; define the key problems due to which Bosnia and Herzegovina is making slow progress and evoke possible solutions that would speed up the process. These outcomes will serve as a baseline to promote academic dialogue which will spread to the public through workshops and round tables. Highlighting all the complexities of the area and promoting scientific dialogue and excellency in research and teaching, this module aims to engage the public to stimulate political dialogue providing recommendations for further affirmation of EU policy in this region.
