The aim of the project is to provide sustainable financial services for urban infrastructure investments in order to strengthen the climate resilience of municipalities, improve the living conditions of the urban population and expand the capacities of ULBs so that they can plan, manage and operate sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure. The project will provide loans to selected municipalities (Urban Local Bodies - ULBs) to provide climate-adapted and sustainable urban infrastructure projects. The main areas to be financed are climate-resilient infrastructure projects in the areas of water supply and sanitation. Other possible areas include waste separation and disposal, storm water drainage, street lighting and water body rehabilitation. The main aim is to support the Indian government's AMRUT 2.0 program. Furthermore, projects within the framework of other initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 or Smart Cities Mission can also be co-financed, as many ULBs lack a sufficient financial basis to implement sustainable infrastructure investments independently. This will enable the ULBs to fulfil their growing responsibilities in providing municipal services due to advancing urbanisation and to further develop the urban infrastructure in a climate-resilient manner.
