The FC Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Development program is supporting the city of Chennai in southern India in establishing a comprehensive and integrated rainwater management system in the Kovalam Basin watershed. The improved supply of rainwater management infrastructure adapted to climate change is intended to better protect the population in the FC program regions and local businesses from flood risks - particularly caused by heavy rainfall events and the expected rise in sea levels - and thus strengthen their resilience to the negative consequences of climate change. The FC program thus contributes to sustainable, socially balanced and inclusive urbanization (SDG 11) by improving urban environmental protection and infrastructure in urban areas, particularly with regard to environmental and climate aspects, and by improving the living conditions of the poor urban population.
