Road King has a 50% stake in the joint venture and invested HK$ 181 million (US$ 23.4 million). The 52.8km Super Class II road started operating late 1995. Competition from Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway from the end of 1996 reduced toll revenue during 1997. In response, the provincial government approved a toll increase of approx. 60% for 1998. Road King funds its projects from internally generated funds and long term debt. This includes a US$ 138 million syndicated loan and US$ 140 million 10-year fixed rate notes arranged in 1997.
