Transport and logistics are major economic motors in the Flemish-Dutch border region. Road transport constitutes the majority, so the sector's impact on the environment is great, as it is still 97% dependent on fossil fuels. SYN-ERGIE wants to take a further step in the development towards sustainable goods transport between the East and West of the border region, namely the West-Flanders-Antwerp-Limburg (NL) axis. Oost-West Poort, from Interreg IV, took the first steps towards better goods transport and showed that collaboration between company and transporter results in more efficient road transport with a higher load factor, better price conditions and better service. SYN-ERGIE is building further on these results and is again focusing, on the one hand, on optimising the load factor and, on the other, on promoting synchromodal transport so that alternative modes of transport become accepted. The market is therefore being bolstered in providing a competitive transport offer via rail, inland waterways and/or estuarine shipping. Shippers, logistics service providers, terminal operators and other major players, such as the port companies, are being pooled to an increasing extent. SYN-ERGIE shows these companies the opportunities by means of a serious game, test pilots, workshops and demonstrations with a clickable demo. A synchromodal cockpit is also being expanded, a planning tool for achieving smart, cost-efficient and sustainable logistics.
