Description

Description

The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) announced the opening of two new walkways between Terminals 2 and 3 to make connecting between flights easier than ever before. A 175-foot pre-security walkway opened on November 9th, and a 570-foot walkway, located post-security, opened today. Working in conjunction with other post-security connecting walkways at SFO, this latest addition allows travelers to transit between five different concourses in portions of four different terminals without ever having to exit out of the post-security area. The 14,000 square foot post-security connector features three new displays of public art from the San Francisco Arts Commission, showcasing the works of Kim Anno, Carter-Lynch (Stacey Carter/Derek Lynch), and Paul Madonna. The space also reintroduces the Kadish Gallery, named for Ruth Kadish, who became the first woman appointed to the San Francisco Airport Commission in 1977. This gallery, originally located in a pre-security walkway between Terminals 2 and 3, features rotating exhibitions of photography curated by the SFO Museum in collaboration with the San Francisco Arts Commission. The 4,000 square foot pre-security walkway features lounge seating, a sculpture installation by Alison Saar from the San Francisco Arts Commission, and a gallery featuring a temporary exhibition of photography from the San Francisco Arts Commission Airport Collection. The two walkways are part of the larger $300M Courtyard 3 Connector project, which will also create four floors of mixed-use office space. Although the passenger walkways have opened according to the original timeline, work on the office building has been postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The design-build team was awarded to Hensel Phelps, HOK and MEI architects, and project management support services were awarded to PGH Wong Engineering, Inc., and Avila & Associates.
