In June 2014, Consorcio Maceio Saneamento, a parnership of the Brazilian company Enorsul – Servicos em Saneamento Ltda, the South Korean company GS Inima, and the Brazilian company STE Servicos Tecnicos de Engenharia S/A, was awarded the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the sewerage facilities of the Farol and Tabuleiro regions of Maceio, located at the state of Alagoas. The contract was awarded by the municipality, and the investments were expected to benefit around 300,000 people. The bidding criteria included technical parameters and the lowest amount of government contribution to the project. Besides Consorcio Maceio Saneamento, only another bidder took part in the contest: OAS Investimentos. The contract was signed in September 2014, and the private sponsor took over the operations of the water and sewerage services in January 2015. The special purpose company Concessionaria Sanama – Saneamento Alta Maceio was set to lead the project. The total investment in the project was estimated at US$ million (BRL 289.5 million).
