Description
Description | In 2021, 82% of the population was already affected by multidimensional poverty and thus underserved in at least one of the areas such as education, health, public services and income. The group of refugees in Lebanon is particularly affected. Accordingly, in 2021, around 88% of Syrian refugees lived in extreme poverty, which means that almost nine out of 10 Syrian households in Lebanon could not afford essential goods and services that ensure a minimum standard of living. The aim of the project is therefore to strengthen the local population's capacity to accommodate refugees from Syria and to provide adequate housing based on transparent and secure rental agreements for refugees and vulnerable Lebanese. This is intended to contribute to improved living conditions and the peaceful coexistence of refugees from Syria and the Lebanese population. Key measures include - the rehabilitation of around 1,800 apartments for around 9,000 beneficiaries plus the financing of rental costs (Cash for Rent, CfR) for around 8,000 beneficiaries. - Improvement of housing-related public infrastructure for around 20,000 residents. - Improved performance of eight selected municipalities in crisis management (disaster risk management) - Advisory services for around 70,000 beneficiaries. By improving the infrastructure in the communities hosting refugees, the project contributes to SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions). |
