Description | Tala Prattay Durga Puja organisers in Kolkata plan to install a decentralised waste-to-fuel unit on the Puja premises to make it a zero-waste festival. The unit will process all types of waste including food, plastic, parts, flowers, and decorations on site, converting waste into clean solid fuel as a substitute for coal and wood, and extracting clean water from food waste moisture for reuse. The plant will be installed after Mahalaya and remain until three days after Vijaya Dashami. Kolkata Municipal Corporation will collaborate with Tala Prattay to monitor the pilot project outcome. Depending on the results, KMC may install similar waste-to-wealth plants at Dhaps to process daily waste generated in the city. |
