Talimarjan combined cycle power plant in UzbekistanUzbekistan rich in natural resources is making remarkable development every year. However, power supply is not sufficient enough that even the capital Tashkent is suffering from frequent power cuts. To meet the rapidly growing power demand driven by the growth of Uzbek economy, Uzbekenergo, a state-operated power provider, announced an international tender to select a general contractor for the construction of two units of 450 MW combined cycle power in 2012. Hyundai E&C was awarded the EPC lump-sum turn-key deal valued at 819 million dollars to build a combined cycle power plant in Talimarjan in March 2013, which is the first project for Hyundai E&C to conduct in Uzbekistan region.Taking temperature extremes in the country into account, Hyundai E&C set the ambient temperature condition at between 28 degrees below zero and 49 degrees above zero. Moreover, Hyundai E&C introduced the evaporation cooler system and the anti-icing system in order to make the power plant perform in a uniform way through summer and winter.Hyundai E&C had to deal with several problems after we began the construction. There were no local construction companies that knew how to do pile foundations. After Hyundai E&C carried out research on soil at the construction site, Hyundai E&C decided to use the soil replacement method. The change in the construction method enabled us to cut back on costs and advance the period of the foundation work by about five months.Hyundai E&C gained solid footing in Uzbekistan as a reliable and responsible company with technological expertise thanks to all our efforts. An Uzbek national broadcast aired the construction site and interviews with Hyundai E&C’s employees on August 29, 2016. Placing full confidence in Hyundai E&C’s ability to conduct construction projects, the client already shows intention of cooperating in new power plant projects to come.
