Description | The project consists of upgrading various hydro, mechanical and electrical components of the Taltson Hydroelectric Facility. The facility assets have reached the end of their lifecycle and are now due for replacement with new assets. In addition, a gate will be installed to minimize the cost of the annual maintenance shutdown, provide more control of hydroelectric generation and reduced impact to fish during lower water levels. Upgrading the Taltson Hydroelectric Facility will help to avoid unplanned outages and prevent burning diesel to provide electrical generation in the region. This project will result in increased capacity to manage hydroelectric power for a number of communities in the Northwest Territories. |
