Description
Description | A great place to walk and cycle in Tampines. Tampines will be joining Ang Mo Kio as the next Walking and Cycling Town. Work is underway to improve the neighbourhood infrastructure to support a more comprehensive walking and cycling network. At the same time, residents can look forward to enhanced public spaces that can be used for events and activities which will bring the community closer together. To make it safer and more convenient for pedestrians and those with mobility constraints, new features are being built. These include wider footpaths, barrier-free ramps and re-designed roads with speed-calming measures. The existing cycling network will also be tripled from 6.9km to about 21km, better connecting residents from Tampines, Tampines East and Tampines West MRT stations to their homes, schools, and other key amenities in the vicinity. The network will include trunk cycling routes between Tampines and neighbouring towns such as Pasir Ris and Simei, as well as to the Changi Business Park and Singapore EXPO Convention & Exhibition Centre. This will support Tampines' growth as Singapore's eastern employment centre. Feasibility studies are also being done for a cycling bridge over the Tampines Expressway to connect Tampines and Pasir Ris towns, and for a cycling underpass to link Tampines with Simei. Residents will also have a more pleasant and safer riding experience with wider cycling paths, additional signs and markings at bicycle crossings, and some redesigned town infrastructure such as bus stops. |
