The Tanbreez mine is a proposed rare earth mineral mining project located at the southern tip of Greenland. The deposit covers 15 square kilometers and is 300 meters deep, containing tantalum, niobium, rare earth elements, and zirconium. The project involves building an open pit quarry, roads, a processing plant, housing for 60 workers, and a floating deepwater port to handle cargo ships for mineral export. The mine has an exploitation license awarded in 2020 and aims to start operations within the next year or two, with an estimated initial phase worth $3 billion and a development cost of $200 million.
