Description

In October 1997, New World Infrastructure (NWI) subsidiary Charming Glory Limited signed a cooperative joint venture contract with the Tianjin Expressway Investment & Construction Development Corporation for the development and operation of a 60km toll road. Operations began in January 1999. The JV contract ran 30 years after the opening of 1st section. NWI had a 60% equity stake in the project company, Tianjin Xinzhan Expressway Co. Ltd., and invested US$239 million in equity and debt.The other two sponsor companies were both state-owned companies. Tianjin Expressway Investment & Construction Development Corporation held 33.38% of the stake in the project company, while Tianjin Development Holdings Ltd. held the rest of 6.62% of the stake. NWI had a 90% profit share for the first 15 years and a 60% profit share for the final 15 years. In 2000, the Bank of China granted an 8-year US$ 120.8 million loan for the construction of the Tangjin Expressway Section II. None None
