Description | This project envisages the construction and operation of a 220-MW barge-mounted power plant at a cost of US$ 207 million. The power plant will initially operate on naphtha and later on LNG. Commercial operation was expected to start by Apr. 2001 (construction works commenced prior to financial closure). The project began simple-cycle operation of 170 MW. Financial closure was achieved in Sep. 2000 with a 70:30 debt-equity structure. The debt component of US$ 45 million was arranged by the IDBI, Canara Bank, Bank of India and Industrial Finance Corporation of India (loans with dollar and rupee components). The Tanir Bavi Power Company was a joint venture of PSEG Global (49%) and the GMR Vasavi Group (51%). In the fourth quarter of 2002, Global sold its 74% interest in Tanir Bavi for US$45 million to the GMR group after becoming involved in a tariff dispute. |
