Description | The project is intended to contribute to the improvement in health for residents and visitors to dar es Salaam by improving the quality of water provided and the quality and reliability of supply. The project also introduces the principles of a three first time connection for domestic consumers, and of a lifeline tariff below average coast. It primarily addresses the issues of institutional capacity through its support for the sector reforms to facilitate the introduction of private sector in water supply and sanitation infrastructure and more directly in technical assistance support to the Public Granting and Asset Holding Authority the Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sewerage Authority. The project is divided into five main components as follows: (i) Water Supply Rehabilitation and Extension; (ii) Wastewater facilities Rehabilitation and Extension; (iii) Community Water Supply and Sanitation Programme: this component of a targets the majority of the poor who, despite the improvements in the project, will not directly derive access to the centralized services; (iv) Institutional Strengthening; (v) Studies for Future Projects. The project will be implemented over a period of five years with a total coast estimated at UA 114.87 million. |
