Tanzania - Education II Project

The proposed project support Tanzania Government's human resources development efforts. It was designed to help the Tanzanian government improve the quality of education in primary and secondary schools. The project comprises the following five components: (i) Improvement of Technical Secondary Education on the Mainland; (ii) Strengthening of Science Teaching in 306 Government and Community-built Public Schools on the Mainland; (iii) Development, on the Mainland, of Alternative Education for Out-Of-School Children and Adult Literacy in Non-Formal Education, with a strong focus on girls and women; (iv) Improvement of quality in Primary Schools in Zanzibar. The transition rate, from primary to secondary school, is expected to rise from 14,5% to 20% during the project period. Support for school-level initiatives will develop innovative teaching practices and provide for continuing participation in improving the quality of learning and teaching.
