Tanzania - Green solutions project for sustainable urban development in the city of Dodoma

The Project – Green Solutions for Sustainable Urban Development in Dodoma City – aims to support the Government of Tanzania’s (GoT) vision of building a resilient and green capital city. The Project builds on the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road project (112.3km) approved by the Boards of Directors of the Bank in 2019. It is planned to be implemented over a four-year period with a GEF Grant of USD 5,117,100. While the Project benefits from synergies with the new City Master Plan for Dodoma (2019-2039) it identifies the need for better urban planning, improved connectivity within the city, and that planning and building conditions need to be supported by adequate development control, and enforcement of the zoning regulations to mitigate the impact of the urban footprint and climate change. The intervention is expected to lend support to the city of Dodoma toward achieving SDG 15 and, Target 15.3 by restoring 75,000 ha of degraded landscape under sustainable land management practices (25,000 ha in the urban landscape, and 50,000 ha in the rural landscape), construction of 1,123 ha of a greenbelt along the full length of the Dodoma City Outer Ring Road Construction project and 200 ha of green spaces in the city for both recreation and conservation purposes.
