Tanzania - The Road Sector Support Project I

The Road Sector Support Project I involves the construction of civil works for the asphalting of the Iringa-Dodoma Road (260 km) and the Namtumbo-Tunduru Road (193 km), institutional capacity building of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and the restructuring of the Ministry of Communications and Transport (MoCT) in Zanzibar. The two proposed roads are located in regional corridors and will therefore improve cross-border trade with Tanzania's neighbours, while promoting tourism and regional integration. The project also includes other separate components, respectively for : (i) design review, procurement preparation and supervision services for civil works; (ii) road safety; (iii) HIV/AIDS, STI and TB control; (iv) monitoring of ESMP implementation and collection of baseline data; and (iv) compensation and resettlement. The implementation period is planned to be five years. The resources required to finance the project amount to UA 230.61 million.
