Description
Description | Construction work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is actively underway in Afghanistan. The 214-kilometer Turkmen section of the pipeline is fully completed. Construction of the 153-kilometer Serhetabat-Herat section in Afghanistan is proceeding rapidly, which is strategically important for the project's advancement and strengthening bilateral economic ties. Construction of this section began on September 11, 2024. Hundreds of Turkmen engineers, gas workers, and construction workers are involved. Over 100 kilometers of the Afghan section have been handed over to contractors. Welding, assembly, trenching, pipe laying, and leveling works are progressing with modern equipment and qualified specialists. The pipeline is designed to supply natural gas to South Asia, running through Afghan cities Herat and Kandahar, Pakistani cities Quetta and Multan, to Fazilka on the Pakistan-India border, with a designed capacity of 33 billion cubic meters per year. Afghanistan is projected to earn over 1 billion USD annually from gas transit. |
