TAPI Gas Pipeline Construction in Afghanistan

Construction work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is actively underway in Afghanistan. The 214-kilometer Turkmen section is fully completed, and construction of the 153-kilometer Serhetabat-Herat section in Afghanistan is proceeding rapidly. This section is strategically important for the project's advancement and strengthening bilateral economic ties. Construction began on September 11, 2024, involving hundreds of Turkmen engineers and workers. The project includes delivery of pipes, valves, and materials, with significant progress in welding, trenching, pipe laying, and leveling. The pipeline is designed to supply natural gas to South Asia with a capacity of 33 billion cubic meters per year, and Afghanistan is expected to earn over 1 billion USD annually from gas transit.
