Description
Description | The aim of the FC measure is to contribute to securing the lives and rebuilding the livelihoods of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). The background to this is the increasing flow of refugees from the CAR to areas of the DR Congo that are already food insecure. Due to the particular urgency of the measure, the German contribution is being used as co-financing of the ongoing Protracted Relief and Recovery Operation (PRRO) 200540 of the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations (UN). The strategic goal of the corresponding WFP programme is to reduce acute malnutrition among refugees in crisis-prone areas. The PRRO runs from July 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015. Specifically, the measures to be co-financed under PRRO 200540 are those that focus on supporting CAR refugees in the province of Equateur and, subsequently, particularly needy people in the host communities. This is intended to ensure their survival and reduce their acute malnutrition. This includes food distributions - partly via cash and voucher systems, support for malnourished children and mothers, resilience-building measures and school meals. The cost of the entire program is estimated at around USD 415 million (EUR 327 million); the financing gap is around USD 231 million (EUR 180 million; October 2014). The FC funding contribution amounts to EUR 6.2 million. |
