Tatlin's Tower, officially known as the Monument to the Third International, was an ambitious architectural project designed by avant-garde artist Vladimir Tatlin after the Russian Revolution. It was intended to be a 1300-foot iron and glass structure in St. Petersburg, surpassing the Eiffel Tower in scale and complexity, featuring a contracting double helix spiral with four rotating sub-structures representing different institutions. The tower was meant to symbolize the new socialist identity and serve as both a symbolic sculpture and functional architecture. However, it was never built due to the impracticality and immense resource requirements, including the vast amounts of steel and iron needed, which Russia could not afford at the time.
