The Sociedad Portuaria Terminal de Contenedores de Buenaventura S.A. (“TCBuen” or “The Company”) currently operates an international container terminal located in an urban area of the City of Buenaventura (“TCBuen Phase I”). Buenaventura is located on Colombia’s Pacific coast in the Department of Valle del Cauca approximately 100 kilometers from the City of Cali, the capital of the Department. Phase I of the terminal, which occupies an area of 27 hectares and includes a 490-m dock, was constructed with IFC financing and operates with a designed capacity of 268,350 twenty-foot container equivalent units (“TEUs”) under a 30-year concession ending in 2036. As part of IFC’s initial investment in 2010, TCBuen enhanced several of its environmental, social and health and safety practices for the construction and operation of the terminal, including improvements in the various components of its Management System, contingency planning, compensation processes for land owners and fishermen and biodiversity management relating to impacts on mangroves. These actions have been included in an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) agreed upon at the time of investment.The current Project (“TCBuen II” or “The Expansion”) involves the expansion of the existing 27-hectare Phase I complex to include (i) expanding the container storage areas of the terminal by 6.9 hectares and constructing a new mooring hitch over the eastern side of the quay; (ii) the incorporation of additional equipment to support existing operations and; (iii) dredging and extending the width of the access channel from 84 meters to 150 meters and of the turning basin by 50 meters, its western length by 280 meters and its eastern side by 30 meters. Once completed, the Terminal is expected to provide approximately 610,000 twenty foot equivalent units (“TEUs”) in operational capacity (forecasted up to 2019) to handle containers. TCBuen does not handle or store hydrocarbons or bulk cargo such as coal or grains.
