Living conditions in the Lake Chad region are extremely precarious as a result of the terror by Boko Haram and other groups and the associated military isolation of the affected areas. The project contributes to improving the economic and social infrastructure and income and employment opportunities and strengthens social cohesion and local governance. To this end, social and economic infrastructure such as schools, health stations, water supplies or slopes are built or rehabilitated with the close involvement of the local population, savings groups and small farmers are supported, young people are trained in promoting social cohesion and communities are supported in drawing up local development plans. This is intended to make an overarching contribution to stabilization and reconciliation in the regions most affected by the Lake Chad crisis. The target group is internally displaced persons, refugees, returnees and people in host communities. A special focus is on vulnerable groups such as women, young people and children. Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is responsible for implementing the project; the political partner of the project is the Commission du Bassin du Lac Tchad (CBLT). The project is being implemented in Chad (Lac), Cameroon (High North), Niger (Diffa) and Nigeria (Adamawa).
