Description
Description | The main research focus of the Jean Monnet Chair will be on the development of two major publication outlets, first the Routledge Encyclopaedia for European Studies in which the Chair holder had been appointed as general editor. Secondly, the Chair holder will found a new journal on European Space Policy, which is currently missing in the European Studies canon. These research outlets will nourish European Studies teaching at ESSCA and hopefully more widely beyond the school. ESSCA has established European Studies courses as a regular component of the 1st and 3rd year programme. The Jean Monnet Chair will be responsible of teaching and supervising a new course in the second year of studies for roughly 1250 students. In addition, the Chair will introduce a new course in the field of European Institutions and Policies in the 4th year which can be attended by ESSCA students and students from the University of Passau (Germany) at which the Chair holder obtained his Habilitation. Within the remit of the Chair a summer school will be organised between the six French campuses of ESSCA. It will feature an academic workshop for researchers which can at the same time use their stay to teach in the summer school for ESSCA students and international exchange students. Within this summer school, we will also organise tailor-made introduction to European Institutions and Policies for ESSCA alumni in a “Back to School” one-day event. The summer school will serve as an annual event in which researchers, students and alumni can meet up. The Jean Monnet Chair for European Studies will develop the activities of ESSCA’s EU*Asia Institute (founded in 2006), both in teaching and research, as well as outreach and dissemination. The applicant has directed the Institute for the past five years. The Jean Monnet Chair will contribute to increase the impact of the Institute in its core expertise on European Studies, EU-Asia Relations, Sustainability and Innovation, such as space policy. |
