Technical and environmental studies for the implementation of internal hydrogen infrastructure in Greece

The project ‘H2DRIA-S’ contributes to the implementation of the Project of Common European Interest (PCI) 10.3.1 ‘Internal hydrogen infrastructure in Greece towards the Bulgarian border’ that consists of a new bidirectional hydrogen pipeline mainly from the southern part of Greece up to the Interconnection with Bulgaria. This project includes the Basic Engineering Design, the Environmental Study, including Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), the Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) Study and the Detailed Design for the construction of a 570 km dedicated hydrogen pipeline (H2DRIA) extending from southern Greece to the Bulgarian border. Hydrogen is anticipated to play an essential role in the transition to a low-carbon economy and in the achievement of decarbonization targets in Greece, serving as a clean and versatile energy carrier both at a national and European level. Upon completion of these comprehensive studies, the PCI will be ready for the next stage, namely construction of the infrastructure.
