Technical Support FTAA Negotiations

The objective of the project is to repond, in an effective manner, to the request of the 34 Heads of State and their trade ministers that the Bank, OAS and ECLAC, within the framework of the Tripartite Committee, provide technical support to the negotiations to establish the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). During the period 2003-2004, the project will provide technical support at the request of the various negotiation levels, through a series of short term consultancies on highly specialized trade topics, whose specific contents will vary depending on the orientation and pace of the negotiations. The designated areas for this assistance from the project are: the Trade Negotiation Committees (whose executive arm consists of the Viceministers of Trade); four negotiating groups; and four committees. This project is totally separate from the TC for the FTAA Administrative Secretariat. That operation is oriented exclusively towards logistical support for the FTAA Secretariat.
