Description

In August 2009, the Colombian company Tecnologica Intercontinental (Ticsa) was awarded the 20-year contract to build and operate the wastewater treatment plant named PTAR Tecoman (Tecoman, state of Colima). The treatment plant was set to have a capacity of 250 liters/second (21.6 m3/day), benefiting more than 80,000 people. The sponsor established the special purpose company Sistema de Aguas de Tecoman S.A. de C.V. to lead the project. The project award process was led by the state government, which established the highest private investment value as the bidding criteria. No information was available on the other bidders. The investment was estimated at US$ 13.4 million (Pesos 165.6 million), partially funded by the Federal government (70% of the investment). Construction works commenced in October 2009, and operations were underway by 2014. In May 2013, the Colombian company EPM acquired 80% of Ticsa's shares for US$ 113 million. The remaining 20% of the shares were held by the Mexican family Primelles.
