Economic/Social Impact of the Project Teesta Stage-VI Hydroelectric Project located in Southern Sikkim is a run off the river scheme. The project has an installed capacity of 500 MW with 4 Nos. units of 125 MW each. The project comprises of 26.5m high Barrage, 2 nos. Desilting basins surface, Silt flushing tunnel, 2 nos. Intake, 2 nos. Head Race Tunnel, 2 nos. Surge shaft, 4 nos. vertical steel lined pressure shafts, MIV cavern, Power house cavern, Transformer cavern, 4 nos. tail race tunnel and Pothead. The Project was earlier proposed to be developed by an SPV M/s Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Ltd LTHPL, promoted by the Lanco Group but could not be developed by it due to financial crunch. The NCLT started insolvency proceedings against Lanco Group in April 2018 and NHPC emerged as the successful bidder in December 2018. CCEA approved NHPC proposal to take over the project in March 2019, while the NCLT granted approval for the acquisition under the corporate insolvency resolution process in July 2019. Project is being executed by LTHPL A wholly owned subsidiary of NHPC Ltd.
