Tekakapimək Contact Station at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument

The Tekakapimək Contact Station is a sustainably built, remote, off-grid visitors center located atop Lookout Mountain in north-central Maine. It serves as an entry point to the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, featuring near-zero operational emissions, solar power, and sustainable materials, including locally harvested cedar and cross-laminated timber. The project integrates Wabanaki cultural knowledge and ecological ethics, with extensive use of timber and passive heating and cooling systems. The site required construction of nearly four miles of new access roads and specialized foundation systems due to steep terrain.
