Description | In December 2005, the Egyptian Government sold 20% stake in Telecom Egypt (TE), the state owned fixed line monopoly, through an initial public offering for US$ 892 million. TE’s fixed line networks covered 95% of Egypt with 10.3 million customers as of December 2005. Credit Suisse First Boston and Egypt's EFG-Hermes and Commercial International Bank were the lead advisors to the government for the IPO. The 342 million share deal was split into two tranches — half for retail investors (public offer) and half for institutional investors (private offer). The public offer was launched in the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange (CASE) and the private offer was made through CASE and Global Depository Receipts (GDR) on the London Stock Exchange. TE owned 25 per cent stake in Vodafone Egypt, the country's second largest mobile phone operator. TE had recently acquired a 15-year license to build and operate a fixed line network in Algeria in a joint venture with Orascom Telecom. http://telecomegypt.com.eg/ |
