Telecommunications Development project

Morocco's telecommunications development project is part of the country's most ambitious program in the sector since the creation of the National Office of Posts and Telecommunications in 1984. This program, designed for the period 1993-1997, follows the 1984-1988 program, which initially allowed for 635,000 lines, which were clearly insufficient to cope with the pressure of demand. It responds to the Government's objectives to improve telecommunication services in Morocco with a view to creating better conditions for economic and social development. It will contribute to the financial consolidation of the ONPT and to the increase of the tax revenues of the State. The project comprises the following components: (i) switching; (ii) long distance transmission; (iii) local network; (iv) rural telecommunications; (v) buildings, vehicles, sundries; (vi) technical assistance; (vii) data processing. The total cost of the project is estimated at UA 504.56 million.
