Description

On 5 December 2006, state-owned Telekom Srbija bought 65% of Telekom Srpske, the state-owned telecom operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, for US$860.5 million (Euro 646 million). In 2006, Telekom Srpske had 345,000 fixed-line users and 572,000 mobile subscribers. The company had exclusivity rights over fixed telephony until 2005. Telekom Srbija was selected by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the buyer through a public tender in which two bidders submitted final bids: Telekom Srbija and Telekom Austria. Telekom Srbija won the tender by offering the highest payment to the government (US$860.5 million) while Telekom Austria offered US$622 million (Euro 467 million). The minimum sale price had been set at 400 million euros (510 million dollars). Telekom Srbija obtained $700 million syndicated loan financing for the 65% acquisition of Telekom Srpske, in May 2007. The Citigroup was the arranger of the financing. The signing of the agreement was expected to follow in the second half of December. Bosnia's two other telecom networks, BH Telekom and HT Mostar, operate in the Muslim-Croat Federation and are still state-owned. In 2002, Telekom Srpske was created to provide telephone services.
