Description

Tele-Nord provides NMT-450i mobile phone services in the Murmansk region, whose population totals about 1.05 million. Telenord was established as a closed joint stock company between Murmansk Electrosvyaz and Telecominvest and started its commerical operations in 1995 with equipment provided by nokia. The company’s network with a capacity of 5 thousand subscribers covered the area of 34,000 square km and had 18 base stations and about 3,000 subscribers by 2003. Tele-Nord's shareholders in 2003 were Delta Telecom (50.1%), Triada Plus (24.9%) and Northwest Telecom (25%). Delta Telecom acquired 24.9% of Triada Plus stake in Tele-Nord in December 2003 and increased it’s stake to to 75%. Northwest Telecom planned to sell its holdings in NMT-450 analog cellular service providers in 2004. In 2005, Sky Link (project 1321) owned the control share of Telenord. In July 2012, Rostelecom established 100% control over Skylink and Tele-Nord by extension. Rostelecom acquired Svyazinvest's 50% stake in Sky Link in exchange for 1.91% of its own shares for a total of 9.4 billion roubles ($291.04 million). http://www.skylink.ru/default.aspx?r=51 Info for Skylink (and hence Tele-Nord) are consolidated at the Rostelecom overall company level.
