Tenaska Second Gas-Fired Power Plant

Tenaska is requesting a special use permit to construct a second natural gas-fired power plant with a production capacity of up to 1,540 megawatts on two parcels totaling approximately 414.05 acres in Fluvanna County, Virginia. The project includes a request for a waiver from height limits for chimneys at power production plants, with a maximum chimney height of 230 feet. The plant is proposed next to an existing plant that has been in place for over 20 years. The project aims to meet increasing regional electricity demand driven by the retirement of coal-fired plants, growth in data centers, manufacturing, residential development, and extreme weather events. The existing plant has generated significant tax revenue for the county, and the new plant is expected to generate additional revenue to support county services.
