Description

Description

The Terminal de Exportacao de Acucar do Guaruja (TEAG), a partnership of Cargill and Sociedade Portuaria de Sao Paulo (which belonged to Grupo Crystallsev, Plínio Nastari Consultoria and Hipercon), began the construction the 33,000 square-meter terminal in 2001 and started operations in 2003. The project involved US$ 11.5 million in infrastructure investment and the terminal had initially a capacity of handling 600 thousand tons of sugar per year. In July 2009, Libra Terminais acquired TEAG. Libra planned to start commercializing other products besides sugar. Libra Terminais' main goal with the acquisition was to unify all its operations in the Port of Santos into a continuous berth (the company also owned the terminals 34, 35, 36 and 37 at the same port). The execution of this plan would require an investment of US$ 225 million (BRL 450 million), but, by the end of 2009, it still had to get approval from the port authority and the regulatory agency. In 2012, TEAG constructed a new terminal with a 3.6 million tons capacity. The investment in the facility amounted to US$ 11 million.
