Description
Description | The project aims at the development of a new rail-road combined transport, Terminal Ouest Provence (TOP), located in the South Alpes-Provence- Côte d’Azur region, at the crossroads of the Mediterranean and North Sea-Mediterranean corridors and close to the Miramas RRT that is listed in Annex II of the Regulation 1316/2013. Terminal Ouest Provence will address General Cargo customers who need capacity for long trains and speed up the process by direct entry to the terminal, without going through the reception beam. The terminal is designed to receive/send 44,000 ITUs/year in the short term, with a target of 68,000 ITUs in 10 years. In the long term, the terminal will receive 68,000 ITUs per year, i.e., 140 trucks and 4 trains per day, travelling to Nancy, Paris-Valenton, Bonneuil-sur-Marne and Lille. On a site of 133.528 square meters, the project includes the construction of a handling yard for 850-meter trains, road access to the terminal, construction of secure trucks parking, rail infrastructure and electric handling equipment. The terminal is connected to the national rail network by an existing track that will be extended as part of the project. The handling equipment will be electrically powered, as will the service vehicles. The reception, management, control and security operations will be digitalised and interconnected. By enhancing the shift from road to rail, the project is expected to generate considerable cost savings for freights traffic, as well as, to have a positive environmental and climate impact. The project will reduce road congestion and GHG emissions. Moreover, road safety will be increased by having fewer HGVs on the roads and consequently, less noise pollution will be generated. |
