Description | The project was awarded by Corecal to a consortium of Illinova Generating Co., Consorcio Colombiano Industrial, and Sevillana de Electricidad in April 1993. This project had three phases. In the first stage, the consortium built two thermal power plants with a total installed capacity of 150-MW and required investment of $152 million. The plants were in service in early 1994. The second phase consisted in the expansion of the capacity by 100-MW. This stage began operation in 1995 and cost $48 million. The third phase was the construction of 150-MW unit which was scheduled to enter service in 1997. The total cost of the third power plant was $58 million. Since the second phase, the partners have developed expansion on a merchant basis. |
