Description

Description

The project consists of the construction of a community service building for the Teslin Tlingit Indigenous community. The project scope is an Indigenous community centre, estimated to be approximately 40,000 ft2, to provide citizens with public spaces to utilize in assemblies and various community activities. The building’s community meeting spaces will be used for events and ceremonies, clan and elder meeting rooms for conducting First Nations, smudging ceremonies, personal development, life skills training, employment preparedness, disability assistance, reconciliation activities, youth programming, cultural and language sessions, business training and any additional programs and services identified through further community and design consultation. The project will include the construction of a biomass heating system using locally-harvested wood and may include a solar energy system to power the building. The project will result in a functional, fully-accessible, energy efficient and culturally-representative space to administer and implement the Self-Government of the First Nation. The project will provide a multi-purpose space to bring together a variety of services, programs, social and cultural activities to reflect local community needs.
