Texas Gas-Fired Power Plant Expansion

More than 100 new gas-fired power plants are being planned in Texas to meet the growing electrical demand from energy-intensive industries such as data centers for artificial intelligence. The projects include 108 proposed new gas plants, 17 expansions, and 5 unspecified projects, with 4 under construction and 33 permitted but not yet started. The expansion aims to add 58,000 megawatts of generation capacity, enough to power over 8 million average American households, with many projects targeting completion by the end of 2028.
