Texas Gas Power Plant Expansion

Developers plan to build more than 100 new gas-fired power plants in Texas to meet the growing electrical demand from energy-intensive industries such as artificial intelligence data centers. The projects would add approximately 58,000 megawatts of new generation capacity, enough to power over 8 million average American households. The expansion includes 108 proposed new gas plants and 17 expansions, with some projects under construction and others permitted but not yet started. The buildout is expected to add significant greenhouse gas emissions and faces environmental and community concerns.
