Description
Description | A surge in permit applications for over 130 natural gas power plant projects in Texas, driven by the rise of power-hungry AI data centers and a new subsidy system favoring fossil fuel power. More than 100 of these are entirely new facilities, potentially increasing Texas' carbon footprint significantly. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has been rapidly approving these projects, sometimes using standard permits instead of major source permits required under the Clean Air Act, raising concerns about compliance and environmental impact. |
